As they walked up, Sarah took off running barefoot, her heels in hand and threw her arms around Marcus’ neck. They shared a quick kiss as he squeezed her ass. “The neighbors,” he thought looking around. “Not everyone is in the life, Sarah,” he murmured under his breath. He noticed the next-door neighbors nineteen-year-old daughter Mindy was on her porch thumbing through her phone. She looked up saw the two of them hugging and went right back to texting.

They all walked inside, and Sarah introduced them. She seemed so happy that they were finally meeting, it seemed to mean a lot to her, he thought.

“So, Grant,” Marcus said taking a seat on the couch. “Sarah tells me you’re an accountant, right?”

“Tax attorney,” he said and sat across from him on the love seat.

“Even better,” he said. “I’ve got this issue with some back taxes and… “

Grant wasn’t paying attention. His head was still spinning being in the same room with Sarah’s previously secret lover. The man who’d made the video of them, who had completely ravished his wife. He was sitting right across from him asking him for help with his taxes. Sarah brought plates for the pizza and sat in the easy chair between the two of them. Her hands were shaking as she listened to them talk. Grant wasn’t sure if it was from nerves or adrenaline. Marcus was casually dressed, wearing a white Michigan State T-shirt and blue jeans. He seemed to be about the same height as Grant.

Maybe, but he definitely gets to the gym more than you. Look at those guns.

Quiet Jill, he thought.

As he spoke he attempted to keep eye contact the whole time, Grant wondered if it bothered him that he wasn’t able to.

“So, what do you think?” he asked.

“Yeah, I should be able to help you out,” Grant said. Marcus looked pleased with this and took a slice of pizza when Sarah offered it.

“Thanks, Babe,” he said. Grant winced immediately feeling the wave of jealousy that such an intimate response had caused.

His wife smiled brightly and offered Grant the next slice.

“Thanks, Hun.”

There was no denying that he felt something changing inside him lately. Something about sharing her. He realized it wasn’t necessarily sexual, it was a feeling of submissiveness. He had felt it earlier as well, as he had watched Dre take Pam and then again when he’d heard the story Liam had told him. Before this week he didn’t know this world even existed, didn’t know about Marcus or Andre didn’t know about Liz down the road who apparently hadn’t worked up the nerve to confess to her husband. He wondered if it were better for him that he didn’t know. Before this week he might have said it was.

Marcus had a certain way of owning the room, Grant thought. He was irritatingly likable and downright charming for his age. He seemed an all-around good guy. It made Grant want to hate him even more, but he couldn’t. Sarah’s face brightened every time Marcus talked.
